The Discover Boggler By Scott Kim |
| Jun 2000 | Constellations of Iltoz Constellations of Iltoz. A novel polyomino puzzle. I've never seen this idea before. A couple years ago I created a puzzle for Discover that involved finding constellations of the letters of the alphabet in the night sky. The current Discover editor in chief didn't like it, so it ran in Games magazine instead. This puzzle was inspired by wanting to invent a new puzzle based on the idea of finding constellations in the stars. Skydiving on Iltoz. Inspired by seeing the spectacular geometric formations that groups of skydivers can make. I doubt these polyhedral formations are practical, since I would think that it is dangerous to have people falling at odd angles, with one person directly above another. Thinking about arms and legs caused me to invent questions about polyhedra that I'd never asked before. Satellites of Iltoz. A small puzzle based on the lovely way that four corners of a cube form the vertices of a tetrahedron. Created in order to fill out the theme of sky puzzles. This puzzle has multiple answers. |
